Last Thursday, United Way Newfoundland and Labrador made history with the first of its kind, Touton Slider Drive Thru Breakfast! In the wee hours of September 22nd, we temporarily transformed the corner of George Street West and Buchanan Street into a full fledged Drive Thru! Excited ticket-holders eagerly pulled up to our drive thru ‘window’, at the side of George Street United Church, to claim their touton combos!

Volunteers held signs to guide our patrons along, and our special guest, the Maple Leaf Big Stick, kept everyone entertained!

It was service with a smile at the ‘window’ and we even threw in a complimentary windshield washing for those interested!

Behind the scenes we had an amazing team of volunteers, who even at 6 in the morning, were all smiles. These folks prepared the sliders and beans and prepped the orders at the window – they were absolute superstars! By the end of their shift, they collectively prepped over 300 touton slider breakfast meals and poured up over 300 coffees! This event would not have been possible without their hard work – so a special thanks to these fabulous folks!

The event was a great success and we’ve had some fantastic reviews! It’s looking very likely that this will be a repeat event!

Once again, we’d like to extend our gratitude to anyone who helped make this event the success that it was. Special thanks to our major sponsors, Coleman’s Mount Pearl and McDonald’s Kenmount Road, as well as Costco Wholesale and Princess Auto. A special thanks to the Jimmy Pratt Memorial Outreach Centre and George Street United Church for use of their facilities for this event. Last but not least, we’d like to thank EVERYONE OUT THERE who supported this event! Until next time! 😉
